Knowing what skin type you have is important, as you can then choose the best products and treatments to maintain healthy, glowing skin. At Satyuja Skin, we base our skin analysis off Ayurvedic Dosha’s. Each person has a unique skin type and your Dosha may change depending on eating/drinking habits, season, and outdoor/indoor activity/exercise.
In Auyerveda, a Dosha is a unique mind-body type based off our own skin type: normal, dry, oily, combination, and aging.Think of your Dosha as your personal blueprint. For each of us, it describes our personality, tendencies and physical nature.
Each Dosha is connected to an element: Kapha (earth/water), Pitta (fire/water) and Vata (air/ether).
Understanding your unique Dosha helps reveal how to get rid of disease and elevate your health, as well as guiding you back into happiness and balance.
KAPHA Skin conditions: acne, acne vulgaris (chronic inflammation), comedones, congestion, milia, papules, pustules, sebborhea (shiny skin & scalp with comedones), swelling, xanthomas, oiliness, very few or no fine lines or wrinkles, larger pores, blackheads, combination oil/dry, puffiness, dullness, cold, experiencing mucus in lungs, lethargy/sleepiness, weight gain, slow digestion and low energy.
PITTA skin conditions: Sensitive, redness, reactivity, hyperpigmentation, discoloration, pink undertones, acne, rashes, burning/itching, distented (broken) capillaries, applies (red, inflamed follicles), pustules (elevated white heads), sun damage, thin/fragile skin, chloasma, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea.
VATA skin conditions: Dryness, flakiness, fine lines, wrinkles, lack of firmness, dullness, keratinization and dehydration.
During the skin analysis of your facial, the esthetician will go over the symptoms they see currently present in your skin and explain which Dosha you are. They then will curate a treatment guide for your at home care that will help guide your skin back to balance.

1st: Pre-cleanse, then Treatment cleanse
-a pre-cleanse helps remove dirt, oil and make-up or build-up off the skin to prep for the treatment cleanse. This cleanse is typically a balm or oil cleanser.
-your second cleanse is the treatment cleanse, which effectively cleans, hydrates and brings balance to your skin [concerns] and further removes leftover debris.
2nd: Exfoliation – Scrubby/Acid
-scrubby exfoliation needs to be just once a week. If done too often, this may cause redness, irritation, breakouts and oily skin due to your acid mantle not being able to replenish itself, resulting it stripping your skin barrier.
-acid exfoliation masks (AHA/BHA/GLYCOLIC) may be applied on the same night as your scrubby exfoliation. If you experience lots of texture build up throughout the week, you may apply a 2nd acid exfoliation mask about 3-4 days after. If acid masking, apply after your scrubby exfoliation.
-when performed at home on your own time, both are recommended to be done at night due to your skin becoming vulnerable from exfoliation. Additionally, products that are applied after will absorb more efficiently and are more effective during your sleep cycle; 80% of our healing occurs while we sleep.
*NOTE: toners that contain AHA/BHA…we do not recommend use of these products. Too much exfoliation only upsets and strips your natural skin barrier further, resulting in redness, patchiness, inflammation, congestion, and more concerns. Your body is made up of 60% water, therefore, hydrating the skin on a daily basis is predominantly your best option. Allow your estheticians at Satyuja Skin give you the deepest exfoliation of the month while you maintain your weekly exfoliation at home to ensure your skin barrier and micro flora (good bacteria) stays present on the surface of your skin.
3rd: Toner/Essence
-both a toner and an essence balance the skins pH, giving supple hydration and allow additional products, applied after, to be absorbed more efficiently.
-the difference between the two: an Essence is more complex being that its consistency may tend to feel more heavier in weight and contain ingredients that are typically suited for someone who prefers more actives to eliminate extensive serum use. If you are experiencing sensitive skin, go for a toner. It will contain less active ingredients and still give you the hydration your skin needs after cleansing.
4th: Corrective Serums
-you only need about 3-4 drops of your serum. These are your actives! If you are using serveral serums, apply thinnest/lightest (in color) to darkest/thickest.
-typically about 2-3 times a week (consult with our estheticians), especially on your weekly exfoliation night.
-If the serum you’re using is any type of a retinol (over the counter or prescribed by your Derm), benzoyl peroxide, or anything that causes rapid cell turn-over and dryness/skin peeling, use 1-2 times a week, typically a few nights after your exfoliation night It’s not recommended to use any of these on your exfoliation night.
*NOTE:…its best to not have too many serums that are corrective several of your skin concerns. This may cause your skin to be reactive and create new concerns. Check out or FAQ to learn more about how long it takes to see results your corrective serums.
5th: Eye Serums
-gently apply with any finger under the eyes and upwards on the orbital bone, circling upwards, just under the brow. Don’t forget your lids, they need hydration too.
-apply morning and night for prompt results.
6th & 7th: Moisturizer/Facial Oil
-apply about a dime-nickel size for your moisturizer. Adding in massage movements as you work the product into your face, ears, neck and décolleté (chest) in an upwards motion gives a more lifted and contoured look.
-never drag or pull your skin downwards because this action will cause, wrinkles, droopy eyes, and saggy jowls!!
-if using a face oil, 1-2 drops is plenty to avoid greasy skin and causing more oil production. Blend the oin with the moisturizer or apply directly after the moisturizer for a dewy, radiant glow.
*NOTE:…some skin types are better off with just using a botanical oil blend as their moisturizer. If that includes you, we recommend 2-4 drops of your favorite facial oil, warm up the botanicals in the oil to active by rubbing your hands together, then press the oil into your skin, following with facial contouring massage movements, gliding upwards and out.
8th: SPF Protection
-last product applied, every morning, to your face, ears, neck and décolleté (chest). 30 is good but 50 is better for the Arizona desert!
-apply throughout the day if you are intentionally out in the sun. Massage excess product into your hands and forearms for wrinkle and sun spot prevention!
With monthly facials:
Products are a stronger concentration due to professional use for your once a month or bi-weekly services. You may see instant results after your initial visit that can last for 1-2 weeks. Habitual facials, especially if you’re working to correct a concern or two, are crucial to seeing faster results that will indeed last longer. Don’t ever skip your monthly facial!
